Continuing with last months topic, Protecting Your RV Investment Over the Winter. This month; Protecting your RV's batteries!

Quoting Mark Polk "In most cases, problems related to deep cycle batteries are usually a result of not understanding what is involved to properly maintain and care for lead acid batteries. 85% of all 12 volt batteries manufactured in the United States die before they should."

Last year I neglected my RV batteries all Winter. Through sub zero weather, rain, snow, and lack of water, they shivered in the cold, plotting their revenge.

In mid summer, on an outing nearly a hundred miles from any place to buy batteries, they struck without warning. Any other words they up and died! I thought my Solar system was on the blink, and just not able to charge the batteries. Not so, "dead" batteries will not take a charge. Lesson learned.

I'm a big fan of Mark Polk's RV information and education series. He has a great little eBook "Deep Cycle Battery Care and Maintenance." It is near the top of the page.

Happy Holidays,

Jerry
